FAQs – Bluebird Counselling, Basildon &
Rochford

Thinking about coming to counselling can feel daunting and you may have lots of questions about how things work and what to expect. Please take a few minutes to read through this section.

Is counselling right for me?

If you’re asking this, you may already be ready for change. There are no “right” or “wrong” reasons to seek counselling. Some people come after bereavement, divorce, betrayal, anxiety, or depression; others just feel stuck or overwhelmed. Whatever your reason, you don’t have
to face it alone.

How to choose a counsellor?

It’s important to feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose. I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and Relate-trained couples counsellor, and a registered member of the BACP, so you can be confident I work ethically and professionally.

How long will I need counselling?

The length of counselling depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people find 6–8 sessions enough to work through specific challenges, such as anxiety or relationship issues. Others benefit from longer-term support for deeper or more complex concerns.

At Bluebird Counselling, we tailor the duration and frequency of sessions to you. Your progress will be reviewed regularly so that counselling always feels right for your journey.

What happens in the first session?

We’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling and if you have any specific goals you would like to achieve. We’ll spend some time figuring out how we might work together. Practical matters like confidentiality, fees, and cancellation policies will also be covered

How long do sessions last?

  • Individual sessions: 50 minutes
  • Couples sessions: 50-60 minutes
